On the horizon...

31/05/2021

From 31 May 2021, workers (as well as employees) are protected against being treated detrimentally in certain cases where they reasonably believe that there is serious and imminent danger.   The change in legislation was prompted by a ruling of the High Court late last year that the UK had failed to implement the relevant EU law correctly.

The next steps in the Government's roadmap for easing lockdown are due to take effect on 21 June 2021, but this is subject to health data, including progress of the vaccination programme and infection rates (including the impact of the 'Indian variant' of COVID-19).

The temporary adjustments to right-to-work checks will end on 20 June 2021 and from 21 June 2021 employers will again be required to check original documents to confirm that prospective employees have the right to work in the UK.

From 1 July 2021, support under the CJRS (furlough) scheme will begin to taper off.  Full details here.
